How to Tie a Knotless Knot

The Knotless Knot is a fishing knot popular for catching carp. It features a loop that hangs below the hook to which bait can be attached. This loop is sometimes called a hair rig.

Quick Start Guide: Tying a Knotless Knot

Start by tying a small loop at the end of your line to hold your bait. Feed the opposite end of the line through the hook’s eye hole and position your loop where you’d like it.

Wrap the loose end (without the loop) around the shaft of the hook five to eight times. Then, run the free end over the wrapped section and back through the hook’s eye hole.

Finally, hold your loop where you’d like it, and then pull the free end tight with your other hand. If desired, add a drop of super glue to the knot for extra security.

Pros and Cons of Using a Knotless Knot in Fishing

The knotless knot allows fishermen to dangle bait below the fishing hook. This easy-to-tie knot is compatible with any type of bait. However, some believe carp get used to this method and learn to avoid the hook.

Other Common Fishing Knots

Spade End Knot—The Spade End Knot wraps around the shank of spade hooks since these flat hooks don’t have an eye.

Rapala Knot—This knot is most common for attaching fluorocarbon or monofilament lines to hooks, swivels, and lures. It creates a fixed loop at the end of the fishing line.

Fish n Fool Knot—The Fish n Fool is a strong knot that ties a fishing line to a lure, swivel, or hook. It’s similar to the Uni Knot.

Orvis Knot—This knot is used for fly fishing. It attaches a fishing line to a hook, lure, or swivel.Snell Knot—The snell knot attaches a hook to a fishing line by wrapping around the shaft of the hook. It’s appropriate for use with eyeless hooks.
